"What should I expect from my
boudoir photography shoot?"
If you have decided that you
would like to have a boudoir photography session, you will
probably have plenty of questions. One of the most frequently
asked questions we hear when it comes to boudoir photography is: 'What
should I expect from my photo shoot?" and "How should I
prepare for my boudoir session? While every boudoir photographer
is unique, and each boudoir photography studio offers different
services, in general, here are some helpful hints to show you how to
prepare for your boudoir shoot.
Once you have found your
perfect boudoir photographer, you will no doubt be a little nervous
about your photo shoot. Most women feel a little trepidation when
they are thinking about their boudoir session, because this is something
that is completely out of their comfort zone.
We can not speak on behalf of all boudoir photographers and say what
your session WILL be like but here are some expectations that should be
met and we suggest you pick your boudoir photographer accordingly.
You can expect:
- Your photographer will professionally and respectfully coach you
through your poses and session in a comfortable and private environment.
- You will be nervous but these nerves will subside with every moment
during your session.
- That your photographer will choose the poses that will flatter your
body type, you may not love EVERY shot, but the goal is to find a
reasonable amount of your boudoir shots that you absolutely love.
- That the shoot will remain at YOUR comfort level. Boudoir does not
need to mean lingerie shots and your photographer will be able to make
you look sexy in even a pretty dress or sweater. If you do want nudity
you should check with you photographer to see that they offer that.
- That you photos will remain private unless you sign a model release.
- That you will have the time of your life!
*NOTE:
Please check with your individual boudoir photographer before your photo
shoot to see if they have any specific tips for you. This list of
boudoir tips is not exhaustive, but rather a commentary to help you get
started thinking about your boudoir shoot!

"What should I bring to my boudoir
photo session?"
The
Boudoir Divas suggest that you bring a few of your favorite lingerie
outfits. Some of the most flattering outfits are: a simple black
corset or a babydoll. We also suggest "boy short" undies, high
heels and killer push up bra at the very least. (Click here to see some lingerie suggestions and styling
ideas on our 'Inspiration Boards').

"What should I wear for my boudoir
shoot?"
When it comes to your
boudoir photo shoot, there are limitless options for your clothing and
outfit choices. Many women like to wear sexy, provocative
lingerie such as corsets,
teddies, and fishnet stockings. Above all, you should wear
something that you feel comfortable in! If you are looking for
sexy lingerie, we suggest looking at some of our favorite lingerie
retailers, such as: Victoria's
Secret, Fredrick's of Hollywood, or
Lingerie Diva. There are also several high-fashion lingerie designers, such
as: Agent Provocateur, ----, and ---. It's also helpful to note that it is not
necessary to wear lingerie for your boudoir session. A lot of
women wear sexy, edgy outfits that resemble an outfit that would be
styled for a fashion editorial spread in a magazine like Vogue or
"W" Magazine.

"Will my photographer have any
lingerie available for me to use?"
Ask your photographer to see
whether they will have any clothing or lingerie options available for
you to use for your boudoir shoot. Some professional photographers
like to have a small selection on lingerie outfits available, however,
not all boudoir photographers will have outfits, so be sure to check
with your photographer before your session. CLICK

"What about hair and makeup?"
Unless you know how to do camera-ready make-up on
yourself, then professional make-up for your boudoir shoot is a
must!

"I'm not very 'sexy'... will my
photographer help me with posing and expression?"
If you find a professional boudoir photographer with a
lot of experience shooting boudoir sessions, you should be able to rest
easy knowing that your photographer will help you with posing and
expression. Marissa Boucher of the Boudoir Divas states:
"It is the photographers job to coach the client and make her look
her absolute best. The client shouldn't have to worry about that factor
at all." The
Boudoir Divas are the authors of "The
Posebook," which has been heralded as the best boudoir posing
guide for professional photographers. (This book is available for
purchase online at The
Boudoir Shop).

"How much skin will I be showing
in my boudoir photo shoot?"
This should be up to
you! As the client, you ought to have full control over how much
skin you do (or do not) want to show off in your boudoir shoot.
Maxim, more of a men's magazine look... or Victoria's Secret, more cute,
with a bra and panty set covering all areas... or Playboy look, with the
end result showing more skin in a provocative, sexy photo shoot.
Some boudoir photographers will not photograph nudes, while there are
several photographers who specialize specifically in fine art
nudes. There is also the Pin-Up style of photography, which
beckons to an era from the 1950s.

"Where will my boudoir photos be
taken?"
In studio or on-location. Also many photographers
choose to shoot in a hotel. Hotel marathons are the newest trend
with boudoir photographers.

"Should I go tanning before my
photography session?"
No! Most boudoir photographers will discourage fake
tanning or spray tanning before a boudoir photo shoot. We have
seen far too many tanning debacles in our boudoir career. Not to mention
that with some of the lighting and filters that photographers use can
make the
tan look extremely orange in the photos.

"Can I get a little airbrushing on
my final photos?"
Every photographer has a different approach to
airbrushing photographs, and each boudoir photographer may offer
different airbrushing services. Be sure to check with your
individual photographer to find out his or her policy regarding
airbrushing and retouching boudoir photos.

"I don't want my photos to end up
online; will my photographer be posting these photos on their website or
blog?"
If you have hired a
professional boudoir photographer, they should not use your images
online or on their blog unless you have signed a model release.

"What if I want to come in with a
friend?"
Some boudoir photographers will allow you to bring a
friend with you to your shoot. Be sure you ask your photographer
to find our their policies. You
might also want to ask your photographer if they offer boudoir
parties.
